On Sunday evening in Yonkers City Hall members of the community, of all faith backgrounds, ages and races, gathered to pay their respects to the families and the victims, as well as the survivors, of the Newtown, Ct. shootings. I had the incredible responsibility of reporting on this emotional candlelight vigil. It was a powerful event with music, prayer and promised action from community leaders and representatives. And in my opinion, the most powerful moment happened when everyone in the room sang “Amazing Grace” together. Words, nor still images, can really express the pure power of a room full of emotional, candle-lit people singing a song like that together. The room enveloped in sound, people overcome by the depth of the tragedy and the words spoken by those leading the event. It was a perfect moment to just feel the overwhelming sadness of what transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary.
