Local photographer to be featured in New Paltz, NYC
Caylena Cahill and Slash Root will host an opening for “Uncertain Territory” on Nov. 19 at 7 PM. Cahill’s work will also be featured this month in a one-night event in Manhattan.

New Paltz, NY – November 7, 2011 — Each month Slash Root Coffee House and Tech Dojo offers its wall space to local, up-and-coming artists, offering a month-long stay and an opening event on the third Saturday. This month’s artist, local-native and internationally exhibited Caylena Cahill, is showing photographs from two of her series: “Perpetuity” and “Macro Photography” in the show “Uncertain Territory: A Solo Photographic Exhibition.”
Cahill, in conjunction with Slash Root, will be hosting her opening, more accurately mid-show celebration, on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 7 PM at Slash Root (60 Main Street, New Paltz). The event will feature live music from the Dharma Bums and light refreshments will be served. All works are for sale and will be on show through Nov. 28.
Cahill, though a Highland-native, has been exhibited in Ithaca, NY, New York City and France. She studied photography at Ithaca College and has lived in France and Italy. She currently participates in the group Hudson Valley Click and is a Raw Artist (www.rawartists.org). One step away from the NYC nomination for Photographer of the Year in RAWARDS 2011, her work will also appear in a semi-finalist showcase event on Nov. 17 at 8 PM at La Pomme in New York City. For more information about RAWARDS, visit www.rawartists.org/rawards2011.
Cahill’s photographic works cover a range of themes, techniques, subject matter and times of her life. The works featured at Slash Root include images from the series “Macro Photography” – a group of close-up images capturing and documenting small creatures (fauna and flora) in their natural habitats. Another series, featuring more than 20 35mm photographs, show natural phenomena as a representation for the concept of change. The images ask the viewer to consider the nature of change and pose the question, “Is anything really forever?” At the RAWARDS showcase, Cahill plans to show select images from her series “Sentiments” – a retrospective group of images from her time abroad and her collegiate life.
