Last week was about sensational, cool events. This week is about music. I’ve had the pleasure of taking photos at two local music events this week, in Newburgh and Beacon.
Wednesday I had fun listening to about 5 or 6 different bands play sets at this novelty place in Newburgh/New Windsor. It’s a steak house restaurant called Schlesinger’s Steak House, but they have 3 bars and are hosting a weekly “Hump Day” concert at one of the bars, called “The Beach.” This place has a cool feel – like a makeshift beach with sand, a manmade waterfall that doubles as a screen for a projector, and even some palm trees and surfboards. It’s open air and the stage is covered!

Then, last night, I had the chance to document an interesting concert. It was a benefit event honoring the Woody Guthrie Sloop in Beacon. The concert was in honor of what would have been Guthrie’s 100th birthday. The show included several local folk artists, and even featured Pete Seeger! About 150 people crammed into the Beacon Sloop Club to sing along with Woody Guthrie songs, among others. Money raised benefits the restoration of the Woody Guthrie Sloop – which sails daily with different crew and passengers. For more information about it, visit the sloop club’s website.
